About
My name is Max.
I grew up with dirty hands and scraped knees. Decades later, not much has changed.
I enjoy the challenge of a good adventure and the rewards that come with it.
I am a grass roots gear head and a self-learned photographer.
Work. Escape. Explore. Repeat.
The Adventures
My travels have taken me all over the westernmost states, and through some amazing landscapes.
Along the way, I have documented these trips and the people who have been there to join me.
Read through the dialogue; enjoy the stories and photos that capture some of what these adventures had to offer.
The Vehicles
2016 Toyota 4Runner Trail Edition Premium
I bought the “Mountain 4Runner” back in 2015 as a key to unlock new outdoor opportunities, and because I love 4wd vehicles. I knew it would be a reliable and versatile platform to get me where I want to go . . . and home. In the time that I have had my Toyota, I’ve spent more hours than I would like to admit researching how-to’s and ‘which product is better’ articles along with getting to know the platform first hand by both using it and working on it. It has been purpose-built for me, by me, to meet my requirements in an adventure vehicle.
2001 GMC Sierra 2500HD
This truck isn’t new to me, but it’s new to me…if that makes sense. My dad bought this truck new, and I still remember the day we drive it off the lot. When we moved to Central Oregon he told me “every man needs a good truck” and he gave me the keys. It was a profound moment in my life as I have always loved this truck and the memories that come with it.
The “OGMC” is now in our driveway in Bend and will spend its time shuttling mountain bikes, getting us all to the river on hot days, and in general being a great daily driver. It’s going to let the 4Runner have the sole title of “adventure rig” in the family, however I feel this truck will have many adventures of its own. While the modification list will stay modest, you’ll see and read more about this truck in the future!
Articles and Reviews
I have always had the notion that if you’re going to buy something, it might as well be the best version of that product so you won’t need to buy it again; buy once, cry once. That philosophy has forced me to become very thorough when researching for that new gadget or piece of gear, leaving me with a lot of information to share with others who might be in the same boat. I take some of that information and skillfully form it into a comprehensive review or product comparison, showcasing the strengths and weakness of the product. Other parts of that information are used to create informative articles that discuss broader topics to engage readers and shape them into smarter consumers in the off-road/overland market.
I have been fortunate to work with some great media resources and companies in this journey, giving me the ability to test products and publish articles for enthusiasts to dig into. As long as there are new products on the market to test or topics worth discussing, I’ll be writing about them.
